DNA Testing and Weight Loss: Diagnosing Eating Behaviors

Many people can get easily frustrated by their weight loss endeavors. Sometimes it seems like no matter what you try you can’t lose the weight or keep it off. Although there tends to be a lot of factors at play when it comes to weight loss, there is sometimes significant intangible obstacles to achieving your goals. One such obstacle is eating behaviors. Luckily, at Dynamic DNA Labs, we can actually test for these eating behaviors so you can try and work on them and eliminate them, thus helping you reach your goals easier and faster. Today in the Dynamic DNA Labs blogs we’ll discuss some of the common eating behaviors that we test for.

Eating Behaviors

Eating behaviors can be a huge hindrance to weight loss. Issues like eating disinhibition, snacking, sweet tooth, satiety, and tendency to overeat could all be standing in the way of you and your goals.

Eating Disinhibition

An individual with eating disinhibition doesn’t really have any restraint when it comes to the food they put in their body. It’s a tendency to overeat, especially when under emotional stress. If you have eating disinhibition, weight loss can be difficult.

Snacking

Snacking, especially when excessive, can be a contributing factor to weight gain. Although some snacking is normal, even healthy depending on the snack, constant snacking can cause weight gain. It doesn’t matter whether the snack is healthy or not if it’s excessive, you’re still consuming more than your body needs.

Sweet Tooth

If someone has a sweet tooth, they have a craving for sweets and sugar. While there’s nothing wrong with indulging in something sweet every now and then, actively craving sugar and acting on those cravings can be extremely detrimental to your weight loss goals.

Satiety

On the flip side of eating behaviors is satiety. Unlike the other behaviors, satiety causes individuals to avoid eating since they constantly feel full. It’s important to have an appetite because it lets you know when your body needs fuel. Satiety can be extremely unhealthy. Also, you may think that avoiding food would cause you to lose weight when it’s actually the opposite. Weight loss only occurs when your body has enough nutrition to use as fuel. If it doesn’t have the proper nutrients, it will target energy-rich reserves, like your muscles. You’ll quickly lose muscle, become sluggish, and have no energy. All contributing factors to weight gain.
