Strategies for Sticking to Your Weight Loss Plan

At Dynamic DNA Labs, we specialize in DNA fitness testing to help you with your weight loss goals. By assessing your genetic profile, we can help you develop exercise and diet plans that are tailored to fit your individual needs. Although DNA fitness tests certainly make your diet and exercise plans more effective, that doesn’t mean it’s any easier to stick to your goals. Like anything, it is easy to get side-tracked and discouraged when you’re trying to lose weight. To help you out through this journey, we’ve provided a few tips to help you stick to your weight loss plan.

Set Realistic Expectations

When you are planning to lose weight, it’s important to set realistic expectations. Expecting great results in a short amount of time is only going to make the process more stressful, discouraging, and ultimately, your goal of achieving better health may backfire. Just remember not to get carried away. Set realistic, short-term goals so you are more likely to stick to your plan.

Plan Ahead

Weight loss plans require preparation and organization. Not having a set plan is a sure way to lose your motivation and go back to your old habits. Before you start your diet, be sure to remove junk food from the house and buy plenty of healthy snacks and meals. You might also want to meal prep over the weekend so you have balanced, healthy lunches throughout the week.

Start Dieting and Exercising at the Same Time

Many people choose to diet first and exercise a few weeks later, or vice versa. Unfortunately, you are more likely to get discouraged when you approach your weight loss in this way. Studies show that you are more likely to stick to your weight loss plan if you start dieting and exercising at the same time. If you change your diet and start exercising at the same time, these changes are likely to reinforce each other and keep you motivated.

Regulate Your Eating

Many people have a problem with snacking throughout the day or eating at irregular times. Now is the time to train your body and mind to get on a regulated eating schedule. Stick to three square meals a day and allow yourself only one, healthy snack a day. To stay on the same schedule, be sure to eat your snack at the same time each day. Although regulating your eating can be incredibly difficult at first, it gets easier after a week or two when your body adjusts to the new schedule.
